House Clearance & Man and Van in Amersham (HP6 & HP7)

Amersham is really two towns wearing one name. Down in the Misbourne valley, Old Amersham is the historic market town — a High Street of coaching inns and listed frontages, the red-brick Market Hall built in 1682 by Sir William Drake and still hosting the Saturday market, and the town museum at 49 High Street, set in a timber-framed hall house dating from around 1480. A mile up the hill, Amersham-on-the-Hill barely existed until the Metropolitan Railway arrived in 1892; the parades and avenues that followed made it a poster child for Metro-land. Amersham's own recycling centre sits on London Road East (HP7 9DT) — open seven days a week (9am–6pm at the time of writing) and free for Buckinghamshire residents arriving by car, no booking needed. Turn up in a van, pick-up or minibus, though, and you need a vehicle waste e-permit arranged with the council in advance — staff can refuse entry without one. The fallback at Chesham (Latimer Road, HP5 1TL) closes every Wednesday and Thursday. Buckinghamshire Council's bulky-waste collection is the other route: £65 for one to three items, £130 for four to six and £195 for seven to nine — nine is the maximum — and crews only collect from outside the property, never from inside the house, outbuildings, or up and down steps. Access is the easy part.
