House Clearance & Rubbish Removal in Little Chalfont (HP6)

Little Chalfont didn't officially exist — at least not by that name — until 15 January 1925, when residents of what was then Chalfont Road Village asked the parish council for something better. The village grew up around its railway: the Metropolitan Railway opened Chalfont Road station, today's Chalfont & Latimer, in 1889, and when land was released in the 1920s as part of Metro-land, the avenues of family homes followed. That's still the character today — a commuter village served by both the Metropolitan line and Chiltern Railways' Marylebone–Aylesbury trains, with a century's worth of well-kept houses that periodically need exactly what we do: house clearances, rubbish removal and a reliable man and van.

Little Chalfont has no tip of its own. The nearest is Amersham recycling centre on London Road East (HP7 9DT), roughly two miles west along the A404 — open seven days a week (9am–6pm at the time of writing) and free for Bucks residents in cars with no booking, but vans, pick-ups and minibuses need a free council e-permit sorted in advance, and staff can turn you away without one. Buckinghamshire's bulky-waste service is the other council route: £65 for one to three items, £130 for four to six and £195 for seven to nine, capped at nine — and collection is strictly from outside the property, never from inside the house, outbuildings or up steps. Gardens generate the rest of the diary. The village sits by the Chess Valley walks, the Nature Park occupies a former orchard on the old Snell's Farm land, and Westwood Park on Chenies Avenue anchors a village that clearly takes its green space seriously — so garden waste collections, shed clear-outs and turf runs are regulars. We're based in Uxbridge and run the A404 corridor constantly — Little Chalfont sits on it between Amersham and Chorleywood, around 22 miles from central London — so HP6 jobs fit into most days, with typical arrival one to two hours after a confirmed booking. Little Chalfont is the third of the Chalfonts and the most commuter-shaped of them — built out around the station, with large gardens backing onto Chiltern woodland. That setting produces the two jobs we see most: full and probate clearances of long-held family houses, and serious volumes of green waste and felled timber.

Woodland-backed gardens are the local catch. No Buckinghamshire recycling centre will accept a tree trunk or a branch thicker than 20cm or longer than 2m, so a conifer removal or a storm-damaged tree is not a tip job here at any site in the county — it is a collection.

Moves and collections that are not clearances are charged hourly, with a two-hour minimum. Longer bookings and full moves are quoted as a fixed all-in price instead.

Heavy builders’ and DIY waste is priced by weight instead, from £95 for up to 100kg, because rubble and furniture do not weigh the same per cubic yard.

Upholstered seating and mattresses are not priced on the load ladder above — they are all-in by the item, because POPs rules mean they must be incinerated separately. What moves the price is whether you put the item outside for us or we carry it out of the property.

Items that carry an eco fee

A handful of items carry a legally required specialist disposal cost. Sofas, armchairs and mattresses are all-in on our sofa & mattress prices — a sofa from £95 if you put it outside, £125 if we carry it out, priced by piece and size — so the fee below is already inside that price and nothing is added on the day. Buckinghamshire Council runs a paid bulky waste collection across HP6, and for small, simple jobs it is good value. It is charged in bands of three items:

There are no discounts and no exemptions, and the price is per band rather than per item — so a single mattress on its own still costs the full £65. It only represents value when you can fill a band of three, six or nine sensibly.

The four limits that catch people out

1. The crew will not enter your property. Not the house, not the garage, not an outbuilding, and not up or down steps. Everything has to be at your boundary, clearly visible from the road, by 6am on the collection day. If you cannot get that wardrobe out to the front at ground level, the service does not help you at all.

2. Nine items is a hard ceiling. One booking, nine items maximum. A garage or loft clear-out is past that before you have started, and you cannot add items or swap them after booking — you have to cancel and rebook.

3. It takes no building or DIY waste. No rubble, no soil, no garden waste, no glass panels, no tyres, no pianos, no asbestos. After a kitchen or bathroom refit, the council route is simply not available.

4. It is booked, not same-day. Crews collect any time up to 6pm on your allocated day, and if items are not collected you wait until the next day before you can even report it.

It is open seven days a week — 9am to 6pm from 1 April to 30 September, and 9am to 4pm from 1 October to 31 March, and on bank holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

No booking is needed, but you must bring proof of a Buckinghamshire address.

Vans, pick-ups, trucks and minibuses — or anything towing a trailer larger than 0.9m × 1.2m — need a free vehicle waste permit, issued as a QR code by email and valid 31 days.

It has six unloading bays, half Beaconsfield’s capacity, so it queues at weekends.

The permit is the part people miss. Turn up in a van without the QR code and you are turned away at the barrier, having already loaded the van — which is how a free tip run becomes a wasted Saturday. Full detail is in our Buckinghamshire waste permit guide.

Disposal and recycling are handled as part of the fixed price when we do it instead, with waste transfer paperwork on request so your duty of care is covered. Before booking any collection — with us or anyone — ask for the registered carrier’s details and verify them on the Environment Agency public register.

Probate is a large part of what we do in Little Chalfont, and it is different work from a house move. The property is usually large, the contents span decades, and the people arranging it are executors, solicitors or family dealing with a bereavement at the same time. It cannot be rushed and it should not feel transactional.

How we handle it: we walk the property with you first and agree what is being retained, donated, valued or cleared. Anything that might carry value — furniture, jewellery, art, books, militaria, tools — is set aside rather than loaded, and we will flag things we think are worth a valuer’s eye rather than quietly removing them.
