Denham is a UB9 postcode but a Buckinghamshire council address, and that catches people out more than anything else here — the bin and bulky-waste rules that apply are Buckinghamshire’s, not Hillingdon’s, even though the postcode looks like Uxbridge. There are no discounts and no exemptions, and the price is per band rather than per item — so a single mattress on its own still costs the full £65. It only represents value when you can fill a band of three, six or nine sensibly.

The four limits that catch people out

1. The crew will not enter your property. Not the house, not the garage, not an outbuilding, and not up or down steps. Everything has to be at your boundary, clearly visible from the road, by 6am on the collection day. If you cannot get that wardrobe out to the front at ground level, the service does not help you at all.

2. Nine items is a hard ceiling. One booking, nine items maximum. A garage or loft clear-out is past that before you have started, and you cannot add items or swap them after booking — you have to cancel and rebook.

3. It takes no building or DIY waste. No rubble, no soil, no garden waste, no glass panels, no tyres, no pianos, no asbestos. After a kitchen or bathroom refit, the council route is simply not available.

4. It is booked, not same-day. Crews collect any time up to 6pm on your allocated day, and if items are not collected you wait until the next day before you can even report it.

Your nearest household recycling centre is Beaconsfield Recycling Centre at Lower Pyebushes, A40 London Road, HP9 2XB. It is open seven days a week — 9am to 6pm from 1 April to 30 September, and 9am to 4pm from 1 October to 31 March.

It is a full-service site with 11 unloading bays — the largest capacity in the south of the county, nearly double Amersham’s six.

It is one of only six Buckinghamshire sites licensed for asbestos, and one of only five that accepts trade waste.

Vans, trucks and minibuses need a free permit, and vehicles with tippers or tail lifts are refused entry outright whatever permit you hold.

Two things catch people out. The hours are seasonal, and most tip-listing sites have the winter times wrong for half the year. And DIY waste is not household waste — rubble, soil, turf, fencing, doors and bathroom fittings are charged per item from £4.20 to £29.40 once you exceed the free allowance a DIY permit buys you.

Disposal and recycling are handled as part of the fixed price when we do it instead, with waste transfer paperwork on request so your duty of care is covered. Before booking any collection — with us or anyone — ask for the registered carrier’s details and verify them on the Environment Agency public register.

Probate is a large part of what we do in Denham, and it is different work from a house move. The property is usually large, the contents span decades, and the people arranging it are executors, solicitors or family dealing with a bereavement at the same time. It cannot be rushed and it should not feel transactional.
