It is a seven-day, full-service site. Where Chesham and Burnham close two days a week and refuse both asbestos and trade waste, Beaconsfield takes both, every day, with nearly twice the unloading capacity of Amersham. When the council has had to divert trade furniture waste away from other sites this year, Beaconsfield is where it has sent it.
That capability is why it draws traffic from well beyond its own postcode — and why the queue on a Saturday afternoon is real. Here is how to use it properly. Where is Beaconsfield Recycling Centre?
The site is at Lower Pyebushes, on the A40 London Road, Beaconsfield, HP9 2XB — on the old London road east of the town, between Beaconsfield and the Denham roundabout.
That A40 position is the reason it serves such a wide catchment. It is the natural site for Gerrards Cross, Chalfont St Peter, Seer Green and Jordans as well as Beaconsfield itself, and it is a straightforward run from Denham — though Denham residents in UB9 are in Buckinghamshire, so no access fee applies.
It has 11 spaces for vehicles to unload — joint-largest in the south of the county, level with High Wycombe, where Amersham and Burnham have 6 each. Only Aston Clinton, at 25, is larger, and that is up in the north near Aylesbury.
There is no pedestrian access without a walk-in permit.
Beaconsfield tip opening times
Beaconsfield is a full seven-day site — it does not have the Wednesday and Thursday closure that affects Chesham, Burnham, Bledlow Ridge and Aylesbury’s Rabans Lane centre.

Buckinghamshire runs two sets of hours, and this is the single most common reason for a wasted trip. Summer, 1 April to 30 September: 9am to 6pm. Winter, 1 October to 31 March: 9am to 4pm. A lot of the tip-listing sites publish a flat "9am–6pm" all year round, which means they are wrong for six months of the year. Every site is open on bank holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
The midweek advantage
Because Chesham and Burnham are both shut on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Beaconsfield absorbs their traffic on those two days on top of its own. It is still usually quicker than a weekend afternoon — the council reports weekend afternoons as the busiest period across its sites — but a midweek morning remains the best bet. Last entry can be brought forward during busy periods.
Asbestos and trade waste at Beaconsfield
This is what makes Beaconsfield worth the drive from outside its immediate area.
Asbestos. Only six Buckinghamshire sites are licensed to accept it — Amersham, Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield, High Wycombe and Langley. Chesham, Burnham, Buckingham and Bledlow Ridge do not. The rules are strict and worth reading before you touch anything:
- Bonded asbestos only. All wood, glass, plastic and metal must be removed first.
- It must be double wrapped in 1000-gauge polythene, secured with tape, in line with HSE guidance.
- Do not cut, break, saw or rub it. Keep it damp while handling.
- You need an asbestos permit, valid 12 months with a maximum of 3 visits.
- It costs £5.80 per square metre.
Trade, business and charity waste. Only five sites have the legal compliances to accept it — Amersham, Aston Clinton, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield and High Wycombe. You can pay to bring it Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with a 7.5-tonne vehicle limit. Traders must self-separate their waste into the correct containers and pay against the published charging scheme; site staff issue the Duty of Care documentation. The free e-permit service is not available to traders at all.
Charities and not-for-profits have their own arrangement and can use permitted sites Monday to Friday only, with commercial vehicles accepted up to 7.5 tonnes.
Where the county sends its overflow
As at August 2026, Amersham and Aylesbury both carry council notices saying they cannot currently accept certain trade waste materials — bulky and upholstered furniture — and are directing that waste to Beaconsfield and High Wycombe instead. It is a temporary measure, but it is a fair indication of which sites carry the county's capacity.
What permits do you need?
None for a car with proof of a Buckinghamshire address, and there is no booking system. You need a free permit for:

Permits stack. A van carrying DIY waste needs two, and you must show both at the gate. They arrive as a QR code by email and require a My Buckinghamshire customer account — and if you last used the waste permit service before 16 September 2025 you will need to create a new account before applying. Do it a few days ahead.

Vehicles that will be turned away
Permit or not, these are refused at the gate:
- Vehicles with more than 4 wheels
- Vehicles over 7.5 tonnes
- Trailers larger than 2.4m long × 1.8m wide, up to 60cm high with a cover, excluding the tow bar
- Vehicles with tippers or tail lifts
- Tractors or horseboxes
It is worth flagging the distinction here: the ban on tippers and tail lifts applies to the household side only — the council explicitly excludes the chargeable trade waste service from it. So a trade customer can bring a tipper or tail-lift vehicle up to 7.5 tonnes; a householder in the same vehicle will be turned away.
DIY waste charges at Beaconsfield

Plasterboard is restricted and must have tiles, wood and other materials removed before it is brought in. Items not on the list are priced by site staff, whose decision is final.
Hazardous household waste has annual caps reflecting normal domestic use: 4 fluorescent tubes, 2 car batteries, 10 litres of engine oil, 5 litres of chemicals and 2 LPG cylinders.
What even Beaconsfield will not take
Full-service does not mean everything. These are refused across the county:
- Dead animals, carcasses and faeces
- Large quantities of animal bedding (1 to 2 bags a week from small domestic pets, double bagged)
- Materials presenting a direct contact risk
- Tree trunks and branches thicker than 20cm or longer than 2m
- Flammables and explosives, such as fireworks or ammunition
- Storage heaters containing asbestos — anything pre-1980, or models with SR at the end of the model number
The tree limit — nothing thicker than 20cm or longer than 2m — is the practical constraint in this catchment. Beaconsfield, Seer Green, Jordans and the Gerrards Cross Common area are dense with mature trees, and a felled trunk or a large conifer removal is not a tip job whichever site you pick.
Leaving waste at the gates when the site is shut is fly-tipping, not a workaround. The council uses CCTV and ANPR cameras at its sites, and Buckinghamshire raised its fixed penalty for fly-tipping to £1,000 in line with the 2023 government changes. Cases that go to court risk considerably more, plus costs and a criminal record.
When a collection makes more sense
Beaconsfield is the best-equipped site in this part of Buckinghamshire and free for household waste. The tipping point towards a collection is narrower here than at Chesham or Burnham, but it is still real:
- Felled timber or a large tree removal. Refused everywhere in the county.
- A full house, probate or garage clearance. Several loads, several trips, and a vehicle the site will admit.
- You cannot do the lifting. No help loading at the tip, and the council’s bulky crews will not enter your property or use steps.
- Volume DIY waste. Past the free allowance the per-item charges add up fast.
That third point matters most in this catchment. Probate and estate clearances around Gerrards Cross, Beaconsfield and Seer Green typically involve a large house, decades of contents, and a family who are not in a position to be carrying wardrobes down stairs. The council’s bulky waste service is no help there: £65 for 1–3 items, nine items maximum, no entry to the property, everything at the boundary by 6am.
