Yiewsley sits between Uxbridge and West Drayton, strung along the High Street parades with the Grand Union Canal running down its western edge. The housing is a real mix: Victorian and inter-war terraces off the High Street, semis towards Colham Green, and a cluster of newer apartment buildings that have gone up close to West Drayton station and the canal as the Elizabeth line has pulled buyers and renters this way.

Each type brings its own moving problem, and we've met them all. Terraces often have no front garden and on-street parking only, so we keep loading tight and legal on the narrower turnings. The flats above the High Street shops mean stairs and short-stay bays out front — we plan those pickups for quieter hours where we can. In the newer blocks it's the usual drill of lift bookings and bin-store distances, and anything crossing the canal means working around the low bridges on the local roads rather than trusting the satnav. Because our base in Uxbridge is only a few minutes up the road, Yiewsley is about the cheapest place in London to get us to your door.

Rubbish and waste collection is co-equal with removals here. Yiewsley runs straight into West Drayton and shares UB7 with it. The recurring jobs split between flats above the High Street parade, the canal-side new-build blocks, and end-of-tenancy clearances in the older terraces off Falling Lane and Trout Road.

Moves and collections that are not clearances are charged hourly, with a two-hour minimum. Longer bookings and full moves are quoted as a fixed all-in price instead.

Items that carry an eco fee

A handful of items carry a legally required specialist disposal cost. These are added to the load prices above, or charged on their own from the £95 minimum call-out:

The London Borough of Hillingdon runs a paid bulky waste collection across UB7, and for a small qualifying job it is good value. It is charged per collection slot, not per item:

One slot covers a single fridge or freezer on its own, or up to six other items such as a sofa, bed, mattress or wardrobe. The price is per slot rather than per item — so one mattress on its own still costs the full £53.

The four limits that catch people out

1. The crew will not come inside. Everything must be at the boundary of your property, at ground-floor level and accessible, by 6am on the day. Miss that window and the crew moves on. If you cannot get the wardrobe down the stairs yourself, the service does not help you.

2. Six items per slot, and a fridge counts as the whole slot. A garage, loft or end-of-tenancy clear-out runs past that immediately, and each further slot is another £53.

3. It takes no building or DIY waste. No rubble, no soil, no garden waste, no tyres, no hazardous items. After a refit, the council route is not available to you at all.

4. It is booked, not same-day. Collections run Monday to Friday and you take the next free date. At busy periods that can be several days out — worth knowing if you are clearing before a completion or a tenancy handover.

Your nearest household recycling centre is Harefield Civic Amenity Site at New Years Green Lane, Harefield, UB9 6LX. It is open seven days a week, 8am to 4pm, last entry 3.45pm.

It is free for Hillingdon residents, but cars need a HillingdonFirst card and vans need two forms of ID and are capped at 12 visits a year. It is household waste only — no trade waste.

Since 15 July, Hillingdon residents can also use Space Waye in Feltham, which is open seven days and much closer for the south of the borough.

The council specifically asks residents not to turn right into New Years Green Lane from Harvil Road — the junction backs up badly at weekends.

The catch that is unique to this borough is geography: the tip is up at Harefield, so “free” costs more the further south of the borough you live. From the bottom of Hillingdon a round trip plus a van permit is often dearer in fuel and a Saturday morning than a collection is.
