House Clearance & Man and Van in Hedgerley (SL2)

Ask anyone in South Bucks to name a picture-postcard village and Hedgerley comes up fast: a linear run of red-brick and timber-framed cottages along the village street, the pond beside Court Farm House at its centre, and St Mary the Virgin — Benjamin Ferrey's Gothic Revival church, completed in 1852 — above it. The parish has taken the Best Kept Village title repeatedly, most recently in 2023 after wins in 2014 and 2015. Pretty comes with practicalities, though: period cottages with low lintels and tight staircases, long gardens, and lanes where a skip lorry is unwelcome. That's where we come in — house clearances and clear-outs loaded straight into the van, nothing sat on the verge.

The nearest tip is genuinely close — Burnham recycling centre on Crowpiece Lane, SL2 3TG shares Hedgerley's postcode sector, roughly two miles south of the village. But it's closed every Wednesday and Thursday, and vans, pick-ups and anything larger than a car need a free vehicle permit arranged with Buckinghamshire Council in advance. The council's bulky-waste collection runs £65 for one to three items, £130 for four to six and £195 for seven to nine — everything left outside by 6am, and no garden waste, bathroom suites or building materials on the accepted list. Gardens are the big one here. On the edge of Burnham Beeches country, with walks running from the pond into Church Wood RSPB reserve, Hedgerley plots are long, hedged and heavily treed — and as above, the council's bulky service won't touch garden waste at all. For bigger jobs, access is what we plan around. The village has no station — it sits about three miles south-east of Beaconsfield and a couple of miles from Gerrards Cross — but the M40 runs along the top of the parish with junction 2 close by at Beaconsfield, so we're on site quickly from Uxbridge. Clearances of the older cottages, some 16th-century like Victoria Cottages, get the careful treatment: blankets, board protection and furniture walked out rather than wrestled. This is a village that's appeared on screen — Genevieve in 1953, The Amazing Mr Blunden in 1972 — and we treat it accordingly.
