Furniture we take away in Hillingdon

Sofa and mattress removals from the flats around Hillingdon Hospital are one of our typical Hillingdon jobs, and flats mean stairs. The council’s bulky crew will not come inside at all — every item has to be at your boundary by 6am — so a sofa on an upper floor is simply outside what that service does. Every job of ours goes out with two people as standard, which is what a sofa on a staircase needs.

We take sofas, corner units, armchairs and recliners, mattresses and divan bases, bed frames, wardrobes and the rest of a room’s furniture. Upholstered pieces are priced by the piece and its size, all-in: a 2-seater is £95 if you put it outside for us and £125 if we carry it out, and the carry is a single £30 per job, whatever the floor and however many pieces.

Upholstered seating cannot go in with general waste: it is presumed to contain persistent organic pollutants, so it has to be kept apart and incinerated. That cost is inside every price we quote rather than added afterwards. Fridges and freezers are the exception — they run as a general load plus their published WEEE fee, which we give you before we come.

Hillingdon Council charges for bulky waste by the slot, not the item: £53 for most residents, £39 if you are over 65 and £94 for landlords. A slot covers up to six items, so a single mattress still costs the whole £53 and a seventh item means a second slot. Everything has to be at your boundary, at ground-floor level, by 6am — the crew will not come inside — and building and DIY waste, rubble, garden waste, tyres and hazardous items are refused. Collections run Monday to Friday on the next free date. For a few ordinary items you can carry out yourself, that is cheaper than us and we will tell you so; our Hillingdon bulky waste guide has the full rules.

There is no tip in Hillingdon itself. The borough’s household recycling centre is the Harefield Civic Amenity Site on New Years Green Lane (UB9 6LX), up in the far north-west corner of the borough: free for residents, open seven days from 8am to 4pm with last entry at 3.45pm. Cars need a HillingdonFirst card, vans need two forms of ID and are capped at 12 visits a year, and it takes household waste only. Since 15 July residents can also use Space Waye in Feltham, which is closer for the south of the borough. Our Harefield tip guide covers the ID and van rules.

Quick answer

Sofa removal in Hillingdon is priced by the piece and its size. A 2-seater is £95 if you put it outside for us, or £125 if we carry it out of any room — same or next day, upstairs flats included. A 3-seater is £105 or £135, a corner sofa £125 or £155, an armchair £65 or £95, a mattress £75 or £105. Extra pieces on the same visit add their own fee, not another call-out: a sofa plus a mattress together comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out. Every price is all-in — the POPs disposal fee is already included, and nothing is added on the day.

Priced by piece and size. Each price is one piece on its own. More than one piece on the same visit? Add them up and take £50 off for each extra piece — a 2-seater plus a mattress comes to £120 outside or £150 carried out; a three-piece suite (a 3-seater and two armchairs) comes to £135 or £165. Carrying it out adds £30 per job — any room, any floor, stairs and no-lift flats included: about 20 minutes of our £89/hr two-person crew, the same whether it is a 2-seater from the front room or a corner sofa down two flights. Every price is all-in: the specialist POPs disposal that upholstered furniture legally needs is already inside the figure, and nothing is added on the day.

Sofa and mattress disposal in Hillingdon — your questions answered

Can the council take my sofa instead? expand_more

If you can get it to your boundary yourself by 6am, yes: a Hillingdon bulky slot is £53 (£39 if you are over 65) for up to six items, and for a sofa that is already downstairs that is hard to beat. What it will not do is come inside, so a sofa in an upstairs flat is not something it can collect.

What does a sofa cost if you carry it down from a flat? expand_more

Carried out of the flat, a 2-seater comes to £125, and it is £135 for a 3-seater or £155 for a corner sofa — any floor, stairs included. The carry is charged once per job, so a second piece on the same visit adds only its own fee.

Do you take mattresses from Hillingdon flats? expand_more

Yes, and divan bases and bed frames with them. A mattress is £75 if it is already outside and £105 if we bring it down, all-in — mattresses cannot go through general waste, and the fee for that is already inside the price.

Why does carrying it out cost more? expand_more

Because that is the work: two people, the stairs and the time. It is one charge of £30 per job, whatever the floor and however many pieces, so a sofa and a mattress from the same flat are carried for the one charge.

How soon can you collect in Hillingdon? expand_more

Usually the same day. We are based next door in Uxbridge and work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week including bank holidays. Send a photo of the piece and where it sits and we will confirm a fixed price and a slot.

No surprise bills

What the price includes — and what it doesn't

The most common complaint about clearance companies is a price that grows once the van is loaded. So here is the whole of ours, before you book, including the parts that cost extra.

Included in the price we quote

No line of this is billed separately afterwards.

  • Labour — the crew, the carrying and the loading.
  • The van, the fuel, ULEZ and the congestion charge — London charges are ours, not yours.
  • Disposal and recycling of the load — the tipping cost is inside the price.
  • Access from anywhere on the property — any room, up or down stairs, or out of the garden.
  • VAT — the price you are shown is the price you pay.
  • Waste transfer paperwork for your load, on request — so your duty of care is documented.

Priced separately, or not carried at all

Told to you up front, never discovered on the invoice.

  • Upholstered seating and mattresses carry their own disposal fee, because the law forces them down a more expensive route than the rest of your load. The amount is on our pricing page before you book.
  • Hazardous items — paint, chemicals, asbestos, tyres and gas bottles cannot travel in a general load and need a specialist route. We will tell you which one.
  • Fridges, freezers and electricals have a separate WEEE route — flag them when you book so we arrive with the right van.
  • Anything flammable, explosive, illegal, or alive — we cannot carry it, and we will say so before the day.

If there turns out to be more than we quoted for, you hear the new price before anything goes in the van — not once it is loaded, and not on the invoice. The same goes for access: tell us when you book if your street is permit-only or on a red route, or if the job is above the third floor with no lift, and we plan for it instead of pricing round it on the day.

Where it actually goes

What happens to your waste after we drive away

Most clearance companies stop this story at the word "recycled". Here is the actual route your load takes, including the part of it that nobody advertises.

  1. It goes in by hand

Everything is carried out and loaded by the crew — from the room, the garden or the kerbside. What is in the load matters, because what is in it decides where it is legally allowed to go.

  2. Sorted, not buried

The load goes to a licensed transfer station or recycling centre, where it is separated by material. It is not tipped straight into a hole in the ground.

  3. Recovered by material

Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are pulled out for recycling or recovery. Green waste is composted.

  4. The bit nobody advertises

Upholstered furniture cannot be recycled at all. Since January 2023 the Environment Agency presumes every domestic sofa, armchair and padded dining chair contains persistent organic pollutants, so it must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated — never landfilled, never shredded for reuse. That law, not a markup, is why soft seating carries its own fee. Whatever is genuinely left after sorting goes to energy recovery.

  • Metal
  • Wood
  • Cardboard & paper
  • Textiles
  • Electricals (WEEE)
  • Green waste

We do not publish a recycling percentage. You will see "90% diverted from landfill" on a lot of clearance websites. The sorting happens at the transfer station, after our van has left, and we are not going to take credit for a figure we cannot evidence. What we can give you is the route your load takes and the paperwork for it — and if you want to check who handles it, ask us to identify the registered carrier for your collection and verify them on the Environment Agency public register before we load.

Proof

Proof, not adjectives

Anyone can type "trusted" and "reliable" onto a website. These are the things about us you can actually check.

We are a small London crew, not a national booking platform, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: we have 27 five-star reviews on Google and 3 on Yell. That is all of them. Every one is public, unedited and one tap away — which is worth rather more than a five-figure review count you have no way of reading.
