What garden waste we take in Northwood

Northwood’s long gardens are the reason green waste is such a large part of our HA6 work. The plots behind the houses off Green Lane and Ducks Hill Road are big and mature, and when a hedge, a row of shrubs or an overgrown back garden is finally tackled, it produces far more than a weekly sack collection can take.

The council’s garden service does not help much with a job that size. It is an opt-in subscription of £77 for 2026/27, collected in tagged council sacks — six at most — with branches under 9cm across, and garden waste cannot go in your black sacks either. A one-off collection takes the lot in whatever container it is in, including branches too thick for a council sack.

Green loads are for all-green waste and are priced by the space they fill — a quarter load from £139, a half load from £215, a full Luton van from £345. If soil, turf, rubble or timber is mixed in, the tip charges the whole load at the mixed rate, so we price it on our general ladder instead. We come over from Uxbridge via Ruislip and Eastcote and work seven days.

The council route in HA6 is Hillingdon’s bulky waste collection: £53 a slot, £39 for residents over 65 and £94 for landlords, with up to six items in each slot. It collects from the boundary only — out at ground level by 6am, nothing fetched from inside — and it takes no building or DIY waste, garden waste, rubble, tyres or hazardous items. Slots are booked Monday to Friday against the next free date, which at busy times can be several days away. For a few ordinary pieces you can carry to the front yourself it is cheaper than us, but a garage, loft or whole-house clear-out runs past six items straight away. Our council versus man and van comparison shows where the line falls.

Northwood’s nearest tip is the borough’s Harefield Civic Amenity Site on New Years Green Lane (UB9 6LX), over toward Harefield: free for Hillingdon residents, seven days a week, 8am to 4pm with last entry at 3.45pm. A car needs a HillingdonFirst card. A van or trailer needs photo ID plus a household bill from the last three months, both in the driver’s own name, and is capped at 12 visits a calendar year — take the hire agreement as well if the van is hired. It takes household waste only. Our Harefield tip guide sets out the rules.

Garden waste removal in Northwood — your questions answered

Can you take the waste from a big hedge or tree job in HA6? expand_more

Yes. Heavy hedge, shrub and tree work off mature plots is a regular Northwood job. Branches and cuttings go in the load loose; send a photo or tell us roughly how much there is and we will send the right van.

Why not just subscribe to the council service? expand_more

For weekly mowing it can make sense. For a big cut-back it does not: six tagged sacks per collection, nothing in your own bags or bulk bags, and branches under 9cm only. Anything in the wrong container is left behind.

Is soil or turf priced the same as green waste? expand_more

No. Soil, turf, rubble and anything else mixed in are not green waste at the tip, which charges the whole load at the mixed rate, so those loads go on our general ladder. A load that is all green stays on the green prices.

Can you get the van close on a gravel drive? expand_more

Usually. Gravel drives and gated frontages are common in HA6; we position the van so we are not churning up the drive, carry the last stretch, and sweep the path when we finish.

How soon can you clear a Northwood garden? expand_more

Usually the same or next day. We work 7am to 10pm, seven days a week including bank holidays, and HA6 is a short run from our Uxbridge base.

No surprise bills

What the price includes — and what it doesn't

The most common complaint about clearance companies is a price that grows once the van is loaded. So here is the whole of ours, before you book, including the parts that cost extra.

Included in the price we quote

No line of this is billed separately afterwards.

  • Labour — the crew, the carrying and the loading.
  • The van, the fuel, ULEZ and the congestion charge — London charges are ours, not yours.
  • Disposal and recycling of the load — the tipping cost is inside the price.
  • Access from anywhere on the property — any room, up or down stairs, or out of the garden.
  • VAT — the price you are shown is the price you pay.
  • Waste transfer paperwork for your load, on request — so your duty of care is documented.

Priced separately, or not carried at all

Told to you up front, never discovered on the invoice.

  • Upholstered seating and mattresses carry their own disposal fee, because the law forces them down a more expensive route than the rest of your load. The amount is on our pricing page before you book.
  • Hazardous items — paint, chemicals, asbestos, tyres and gas bottles cannot travel in a general load and need a specialist route. We will tell you which one.
  • Fridges, freezers and electricals have a separate WEEE route — flag them when you book so we arrive with the right van.
  • Anything flammable, explosive, illegal, or alive — we cannot carry it, and we will say so before the day.

If there turns out to be more than we quoted for, you hear the new price before anything goes in the van — not once it is loaded, and not on the invoice. The same goes for access: tell us when you book if your street is permit-only or on a red route, or if the job is above the third floor with no lift, and we plan for it instead of pricing round it on the day.

Where it actually goes

What happens to your waste after we drive away

Most clearance companies stop this story at the word "recycled". Here is the actual route your load takes, including the part of it that nobody advertises.

  1. It goes in by hand

Everything is carried out and loaded by the crew — from the room, the garden or the kerbside. What is in the load matters, because what is in it decides where it is legally allowed to go.

  2. Sorted, not buried

The load goes to a licensed transfer station or recycling centre, where it is separated by material. It is not tipped straight into a hole in the ground.

  3. Recovered by material

Metal, wood, cardboard, textiles and electricals are pulled out for recycling or recovery. Green waste is composted.

  4. The bit nobody advertises

Upholstered furniture cannot be recycled at all. Since January 2023 the Environment Agency presumes every domestic sofa, armchair and padded dining chair contains persistent organic pollutants, so it must be kept apart from other waste and incinerated — never landfilled, never shredded for reuse. That law, not a markup, is why soft seating carries its own fee. Whatever is genuinely left after sorting goes to energy recovery.

  • Metal
  • Wood
  • Cardboard & paper
  • Textiles
  • Electricals (WEEE)
  • Green waste

We do not publish a recycling percentage. You will see "90% diverted from landfill" on a lot of clearance websites. The sorting happens at the transfer station, after our van has left, and we are not going to take credit for a figure we cannot evidence. What we can give you is the route your load takes and the paperwork for it — and if you want to check who handles it, ask us to identify the registered carrier for your collection and verify them on the Environment Agency public register before we load.

Proof

Proof, not adjectives

Anyone can type "trusted" and "reliable" onto a website. These are the things about us you can actually check.

We are a small London crew, not a national booking platform, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: we have 27 five-star reviews on Google and 3 on Yell. That is all of them. Every one is public, unedited and one tap away — which is worth rather more than a five-figure review count you have no way of reading.
