Quick Answer
Van Thats Quick collects Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Gumtree buys across London from £45 for a local collection, £55 for a larger single item such as a sofa, wardrobe or washing machine, and £195 for a van load or several sellers in one run. Outside the M25 it is £1.90 a loaded mile with a £95 minimum — so a 60-mile run is £114 and 200 miles is £380. IKEA and store click-and-collect is £55. Collection is today where the diary allows, at no extra cost. You agree payment with the seller yourself; we collect once it is paid, carry it in and place it.
Facebook Marketplace, eBay and Gumtree are full of furniture worth having at prices worth paying, and almost all of it says collection only. That is the whole problem. The sofa is in Croydon, you are in Uxbridge, it is a two-person lift, the seller wants it gone by Sunday, and you are at work. Collections fall through because the buyer cannot physically get there, not because anyone changed their mind.
This service is the missing leg. Send us the listing and the seller's postcode, we agree a window with them, we collect, and we deliver it to your door and carry it in. A local collection is £45. A larger single item — a three-seater, a wardrobe, a fridge, a washing machine — is £55. A bulk buy or several sellers in one run is a van load at £195. The price is fixed from the photos before we set off, not decided on the pavement afterwards.
One thing we do not do is handle your money. Agree payment with the seller yourself; we collect once it is paid. That keeps the transaction between the two people who agreed it, and it means a driver is never turning up at a stranger's door carrying a customer's cash. Everything else — the phone call, the timing, the lifting, the stairs, the wrapping — is ours. See the full price list, or the Marketplace delivery guide if you want the long version.
How a Marketplace collection actually works
Four things happen, and only the first one needs you.
- You send the listing. The link or a screenshot is ideal, because it usually already carries the dimensions, the postcode and the seller's collection window. Add your delivery postcode and anything we should know about stairs at your end.
- You settle up with the seller. Agree payment with the seller yourself — bank transfer, PayPal, whatever the two of you have agreed — and we collect once it is paid. We carry goods, not money. If the seller wants payment on collection, pay them by transfer while we are on the doorstep and they can watch it land.
- We arrange the window. Give us the seller's number and we sort the time out with them directly. You do not have to be at the collection end, relay messages or take an afternoon off.
- We collect, wrap and deliver. Blankets and straps for the journey, and it comes into the room you want it in — not left on the pavement outside your building.
Most London collections happen the same day, seven days a week between 7am and 10pm — usually within about two hours of booking where the diary has a slot, and there is nothing to add for that: a dedicated same-day run is the service, not an upgrade on it. The single most useful thing you can send us is a photo of the item next to something of known size, and a photo of the doorway it has to come through at your end.
Local, across London, or across the country
Distance is what moves the price, not the platform. The same three bands apply whether it came from Marketplace, eBay, Gumtree, Vinted or a shop.
- Local, £45. Seller and buyer reasonably close, item small enough for one person to handle — a chair, a mirror, a bike, a boxed item, a bedside table. This is the classic Marketplace price.
- Larger single item within the M25, £55. Anything that genuinely needs the van rather than a car boot: sofas, wardrobes, beds, dining sets, appliances. Across London counts — Enfield to Croydon is still one job.
- Outside the M25, £1.90 a loaded mile with a £95 minimum. The minimum covers the first 50 loaded miles, so the bargain sitting in Oxford, Reading, Milton Keynes or anywhere in Bucks, Herts, Berks or Surrey is on or near it. Past that it is simply the mileage: 60 miles is £114. Worth doing the sum before you bid — add the collection to the asking price and see whether it is still the bargain it looked like.
- Anywhere else on the UK mainland, the same rate. One item, one dedicated van, nothing else on board: 200 miles is £380. Loaded miles means collection to delivery — the empty run home is inside the rate and there is no fuel surcharge. See long distance for how that ladder works.
A second person is £45 where the item needs two — corner sofas, American fridges, anything going up more than two flights without a lift. It is far cheaper booked than discovered, because a job that has to be abandoned on the doorstep still used up the slot.
What sellers need to know
Half of these jobs involve a seller who has never sent anything by courier and is quietly worried that this is a scam. It is worth telling them three things when you book, because it makes the collection go smoothly.
- Who is coming and when. We will ring them to agree a window, and we will ring again when we are close. Give them the buyer's name so they know which sale it relates to.
- Money is not our business. The driver will not hand over cash and will not collect a payment on your behalf. Sellers should be paid before or at the point of collection, directly by the buyer. It protects both sides.
- What the driver will and will not do. We will carry the item out, including down stairs, and we bring trolleys, straps and blankets. We will not dismantle a bed frame or unplumb a washing machine unless it has been agreed in advance — those want tools and time, and they change the slot.
Sellers who want to shift something bulky in a hurry sometimes book this themselves, which is fine: we will collect from you and deliver to your buyer on exactly the same ladder. And if the buyer pulls out after you have paid us, tell us early — a slot we can refill costs nobody anything.
Van loads and multi-seller runs
If you have had a good week on Marketplace, doing it one item at a time is the expensive way. A van load is £195 and covers several items, several sellers, or a house lot in one run.
The usual cases: furnishing a flat from scratch from four different listings around north London; a landlord kitting out a let; a house clearance buy where somebody has sold the whole contents of a room; an office picking up desks and chairs from two or three sellers. Three separate £55 collections and a van load are close in price, and the van load is one afternoon instead of three appointments — so as soon as the list gets to three bulky things, ask us to price it as a load.
Two practical limits. First, the sellers have to be reachable in one sensible route on one day: four addresses spread across Watford, Bromley, Ealing and Romford is two jobs, not one. Second, the pile has to fit — a van load means a Luton's worth, not a three-bed house. Send us the list of items with rough dimensions and we will tell you honestly whether it is one load or two before you commit to anything.
For a genuine flat's worth of furniture, small removals or an hourly man and van booking at £89 an hour with two movers, 2-hour minimum, may work out better. We will say which one is cheaper for your job rather than defaulting to the dearer one.
IKEA, warehouses and store click-and-collect
The same service works on shops, and it is often the reason people find this page. Store collection is £55.
- IKEA. Wembley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lakeside and Reading are all regular runs. Order for click-and-collect, send us the order number and the collection slot, and we bring it to your door. See IKEA delivery for the detail.
- Furniture showrooms and clearance warehouses. Plenty will hold an item but will not deliver it, or will only deliver in three weeks on a day they choose.
- Kerbside deliveries you have already paid for. Where the retailer will only drop to the pavement, we can be there to take it up the stairs and into the room.
- Auction houses and eBay business sellers. Usually a fixed collection window and a strict cut-off, which suits a dedicated van better than a courier network.
Flat-pack from a store travels well; assembled furniture from a private seller does not always. If the wardrobe is already built and the doorway is 76cm, the honest answer may be that it needs dismantling first. Send photos and we will say so before you buy, which is a better outcome than a refund argument afterwards.
The checks worth doing before you buy
Almost every Marketplace collection that goes wrong goes wrong for the same three reasons. Five minutes of questions to the seller prevents all of them.
- Measure it, and measure your doorway. Length, depth and height in centimetres. "Large sofa" tells us nothing; 218 x 92 x 85 tells us everything, including whether it will turn on your stairs.
- Ask about the seller's access. Second floor, no lift, narrow Victorian staircase, permit-only parking — all fine, all need knowing. That is what decides whether it is a one-person or a £45 two-person job.
- Ask for photos of the actual item, today. Not the manufacturer's stock photo. Photograph the corners, the underside and any damage. It is your evidence about the condition it was in when we collected it.
- Check what is included. Bed slats, sofa feet, appliance hoses, glass shelves and the allen key all go missing between listing and collection. Agree it in writing on the platform.
- Check appliances are disconnected and drained. A washing machine that has not been drained will leak on the way, and the transit bolts matter more than people think.
- Do the total sum. Item plus collection is the real price. A cheap chest of drawers round the corner plus £45 is usually still a good buy; the same chest 60 miles away plus £114 often is not.
Send photos on WhatsApp and we will tell you straight whether it fits, whether it needs two people and what the price is, before you commit.

What the usual Marketplace buys cost to collect
The typical items people buy second-hand, and what the collection costs. Within the M25 the item sets the price; outside it, the mileage does — which is why the two distance columns read the same whatever you have bought.
| Item | Within the M25 | A 60-mile seller | A 200-mile seller |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small item — chair, mirror, bike, boxed item | £45 | £114 | £380 |
| Sofa (two or three seat) | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Wardrobe | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Bed and mattress | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Dining table and chairs | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Fridge or fridge-freezer | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Washing machine | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Exercise bike or treadmill | £55 | £114 | £380 |
| Garden furniture set | £55 | £114 | £380 |
Distance prices are the mileage at £1.90 a loaded mile, £95 minimum — your own postcodes are priced exactly, not banded. Add £45 for a second person where the item needs two. Several items in one run are usually better priced as a van load at £195.
How we compare with other collection options
What a collection costs elsewhere, and what each price actually buys. Cheap headline numbers are shared vans filled with other people’s jobs and run on the driver’s date; ours is your item, today.
| Provider | Job | Published price | Dedicated van? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Van Thats Quick | Marketplace collection across London, collected today | from £45 | Yes — one driver, today, carried in |
| AMV Couriers (rate card) | Dedicated same-day van, per loaded mile | Small van £1.20 · SWB £1.50 · LWB £1.80 · XLWB £1.90 · Luton £2.20 (min £45–£125) | Yes — same model as ours |
| Dispatchit Couriers (rate card) | Transit van, per mile one way | £1.70/mile, £30 minimum; waiting £30/hr after 10 min; weekends +20% | Yes |
| HG Same Day (cost guide) | Small / MWB / LWB / Luton, per mile | £1.30 / £1.40 / £1.60 / £1.80 | Yes — industry guide |
| Transport Executive | One item London → Manchester, fixed date | £175–£230 | Dedicated, booked date — not collected today |
| Porta Delivery | Sofa London → Manchester, collected today by 5pm | from £185 (from £120 flexible date) | Same-day only with three add-ons |
| AnyVan | Two-seat sofa, national | £58–£184 | No — shared network, multi-day window |
| Shiply | Backload examples (fridge Hampshire → Plymouth) | £40–£60 | No — spare space on someone else’s route |
Figures read 2026-09-11 from each provider’s published pages. Same-day dedicated couriers price per loaded mile — our £1.90 is the published rate for an extra-long-wheelbase Transit, and we send a Transit or Luton, not a small van. Shared-network prices depend on a driver already passing your route, on their date.

Marketplace Delivery — your questions answered
How much does Facebook Marketplace delivery cost in London?
A local collection is £45. A larger single item that needs the van — a sofa, wardrobe, bed or appliance — is £55 anywhere within the M25. Outside the M25 it is £1.90 a loaded mile with a £95 minimum, so a 60-mile seller is £114 and a 200-mile one is £380. A van load or several sellers in one run is £195. The price is fixed from your photos before we set off.
Do you collect from eBay and Gumtree sellers too?
Yes — and Vinted, Preloved, auction houses, local selling groups and anyone else who says collection only. The platform makes no difference to the price; the size of the item and the distance do. See eBay collection and Gumtree collection for the platform-specific detail.
Can you pay the seller for me on collection?
No. Agree payment with the seller yourself and we collect once it is paid. Our driver carries goods, not your money — that protects you, the seller and us. If the seller wants paying at the door, send them a bank transfer while we are standing there and they can watch it arrive on their phone.
Do I need to be there when you collect?
No. Give us the seller's number and we arrange the window with them directly. That is the whole point of the service — you do not take an afternoon off, and you do not relay messages between us and the seller. You only need someone at the delivery end to let us in.
What if the item does not fit through my door?
Best avoided rather than solved. Measure the item and the tightest doorway or stairwell turn before you buy, in centimetres, and send us both. We will tell you honestly whether it will go. If it turns out on the day that an assembled wardrobe cannot come in, we can usually take it back out, but the collection has still been made and is still chargeable.
Can you collect several items from different sellers in one run?
Yes — that is what the £195 van load is for. It covers a bulk buy, a house lot or several sellers, provided they sit on one sensible route on one day and the total fits a Luton. Once your list gets to three bulky things, ask us to price it as a load rather than as separate £55 collections.
How quickly can you collect?
Usually today — often within about two hours of booking where the diary has a slot, seven days a week between 7am and 10pm. There is nothing extra to pay for that: a dedicated same-day run is the product rather than an add-on. Marketplace sellers rarely wait, so it is worth asking as soon as you have agreed the sale rather than the night before their deadline.
Will you carry it upstairs?
Yes. The driver loads, carries and places it in the room you want, at both ends. For anything that genuinely needs two people — a corner sofa, a big American fridge, a wardrobe going up three flights — add a second person for £45. Tell us about stairs, lifts and narrow landings when you book.
Do you collect from IKEA and other shops?
Yes, store collection is £55. Wembley, Croydon, Greenwich, Lakeside and Reading are regular runs, along with furniture showrooms, clearance warehouses and auction houses. Order for click-and-collect, send us the order number and the slot. Our IKEA delivery page has the detail.
Is it cheaper to use AnyVan or Shiply?
Often on headline price, yes. Those are shared-network and backload marketplaces — you are buying spare space in a van that is already going that way, so the collection date is theirs and the window can be several days wide. If a seller has given you until Sunday, or the item is fragile, a dedicated van you can book for a date is what you actually need. The table above puts both side by side.
What happens if the item is damaged or not as described?
That is between you and the seller, so photograph it before we load — corners, underside, any existing marks. Our driver will not judge whether a listing was accurate, and cannot refuse to collect on your behalf. Ask us for the current insurance certificate, cover limits and exclusions that apply to your job before you book.
Do you dismantle beds or disconnect washing machines?
Only where it has been agreed in advance, because it changes the length of the slot. Ask the seller to have a bed frame dismantled and a washing machine disconnected, drained and, ideally, with its transit bolts in before we arrive. An undrained machine will leak in the van.
Can you collect from a seller outside London?
Yes, anywhere on the UK mainland, priced per loaded mile: £1.90 a mile with a £95 minimum that covers the first 50 miles. Oxford, Reading, Milton Keynes and most of Bucks, Herts, Berks and Surrey sit on or near that minimum; a 60-mile seller is £114 and a 200-mile one is £380, one item on a dedicated run. Do the sum before you bid: item plus collection is the real price you are paying.
I am the seller — can I book this?
Yes, and plenty do. It is the same ladder in reverse: we collect from you and deliver to your buyer. It is a good way to widen who can buy a bulky item, since the usual reason a Marketplace sale falls through is that the buyer cannot physically collect it.
